A WOMAN from Bournemouth survived a horrific boating accident in South Africa which claimed the life of a family member.
Peter Hyett, 64, was killed when the seal-watching boat carrying 40 people, including his wife Suzanne and her daughter Helen, from Bournemouth, capsized in waters off Cape Town on Saturday afternoon.
Mr Hyett was from the Vale of Glamorgan, where he had retired with Suzanne, who survived the horrific accident along with her daughter.
The family had been due to return to the UK yesterday after a two-week holiday in South Africa.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: ?We can confirm the death of a British national in this incident. Several British nationals were also hospitalised following the incident, most of whom have now been released.?
The Hyetts, who it is believed had both been married previously, had been on holiday with Mrs Hyett?s daughter Helen since October 1.
The couple had retired to the seaside town of Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan, where Mrs Hyett had grown up, after living in the Bournemouth area.
Mr Hyett was believed to have been in the RAF as a younger man.
It is believed Helen still lives and works in Bournemouth.
