Storage Unit Auctions | Online Business Article Directory

?

Thanks to the A&E?s hit show, Storage Wars, many more people are becoming interested in storage unit auctions. Just like a homeowner who stops making payments on his house, so too can a storage unit be foreclosed. When a storage rental has not been paid for a certain amount of months, the contents of the unit are sold by an auctioneer as a single lot of items. The length of time varies by state, but not every facility chooses to participate. Over the past few years the popularity of these auctions has increased quite a great deal, even more so in the past two years because of Storage Wars -which already has a spin-off in Texas and soon there will be a second taking place in New York.

So how exactly does this all work? Well, once the storage unit has been foreclosed, prospective buyers area allowed to take a few minutes to look at the items in the unit. The bidders then decide if they want to bid on the unit or not. The bidding can start as low as $10 and depending on how good its contents are, can go up to a $100 or so. Typically there are not a large amount of bidders so the process is quite quick. The goal is to resell the items and make a nice little profit for yourself.

But before you start looking up online ads to find storage auctions, you need to have some general knowledge about auctioning items. It?s very easy for people to view this as a quick way to make money, but if you do not know what you?re doing, you will end up buying a storage unit full of junk. Keep in mind that the average person uses a storage unit to place well, their junk. You?ll often find an old mattress, broken furniture and appliances, and other random items of little value. Most people will not store extremely valuable items in there.

If you?ve ever watched the television show Pawn Stars on the History Channel then you know how incredibly knowledgeable these men are. Or at least how smart Rick Harrison and his father Richard are. They have a working knowledge of an immense amount of items and are able to tell junk from value. If you know what you?re doing, you can make a nice chunk of change from storage rental auctions, but don?t expect that to be your only means of income. Start by talking to seasoned professionals and see if any are willing to take you under their wing. Learn the business. Because that?s what it really is, unless you want to end up with a rental full of old baby dolls and broken VCRs.
