Vegan foods that fight pain | Vegan

When most people hear ?comfort food?, they quickly think of rich, creamy, carby, hearty, sweet or salty dishes that fill the belly and soothe the soul. However, for the 50 million Americans suffering from chronic pain, comfort foods are dishes?made with ingredients that help?with pain relief. If you suffer with chronic pain related to inflammation, put the following vegan antioxidant-rich, anti-inflammatory foods on your daily must-eat list.

Cherries

One of my favorite anti-inflammatory foods, cherries have been shown to reduce inflammation through their powerful phytochemicals, which are known to inhibit the enzymes responsible for causing painful inflammation.

Dark leafy greens

Kale, chard, and spinach are ultra-concentrated sources of vitamins and minerals, including calcium, which can aid in muscle relaxation and pain relief.

Ground flax

Omega-3 fats, found abundantly in flax seed, can help reduce inflammation and ease pain. Omega-3s are also associated with brain health and heart health.

Olive oil

Another healthy fat source, olive oil should be a staple in your kitchen. Rely on olive oil instead of processed margarines when making your favorite vegan recipes.

Wheat germ

Whole grains offer a bevy of B vitamins and vitamin E, which can aid in relaxation. Wheat germ is especially concentrated in nutrients and can be added to just about every meal of the day.

Another way to get more pain-relieving foods in your diet is to eat a rainbow. Fruits and vegetables are loaded with antioxidants and phytonutrients that promote pain relief and overall health.
