Dickens's Victorian London is a collection of 19th-century photographs which has been published to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the author's birth.
This picture shows Custom House, one of London's best surviving examples of 19th-century architecture, viewed from the river circa 1875. Part of Billingsgate market can be seen on the left; the crane is probably being used to demolish the old building, and help construct the new market.
