Will developers stop making apps for android gingerbread?
As you know developer can make it to where you have to have a certain version of android to install the application. Will developers stop makin apps available for android gingerbread? Also will developers such as twitter and Facebook make it to where you have to have ics or jelly bean to download their app? Or will developers keeps making apps available for android gingerbread? Please help I'm worried that developers will start making you have to have a certain version of android to download their application. |

As time goes on, yes its likely you'll need to have a higher version of android to run the newest apps. This is already the case for many applications. Some are already 4.0+, while other developers choose to release a stripped down version of the app for older devices (froyo and earlier). However, gingerbread is still sitting somewhere around 20-30% of the android market (I haven't seen the stats lately, so don't quote me on that ), so don't expect it to be left behind quite yet. |

It'll happen, eventually. Not for a while, but once the number of active devices that run Gingerbread drops low enough, it simply won't be feasible to continue developing for that platform. Hell, even as it is, there are apps that require 4.0+ . Chrome is one. Keep in mind that Facebook and Twitter still allow you to use the older versions of their apps with no major issues, just without the features found in the newer versions. I'm fairly certain that would apply to most other apps, too. We're still a long way off from that point, though. |

No we won?t not unless the new sdk offers something really diferent that you can?t do on ginger. But When you are programing you can use all the features of the newest sdk but also you can still be compatible with older android sdk... for example i?v just created an app and I wanted it to be compatible with all devices and so i did it. Although in 5 years I doubt that any gingerbread android still exists https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appsimple.secretsbook That is the link you can check it. C ya ! |

As you can see by this image, gingerbread is still the most commonly used version of android. This is such because most phones offered by cheaper carriers that offer pay as you go unlimited plans come with gingerbread installed. There are quite a few phones from metro pcs alone that are between $70-$120 (relatively affordable) that all come with GB. I believe they only offer 2 (for a bit more money) with ICS and the only phones they have with JB are ridiculously expensive. I would be surprised if GB became obsolete any time soon. |

I think the only reason JB is doing that well is because of the popularity of the S3, S4, and Nexus devices. They roll out updates for those phones all the time, and people buy the shit out of them. I have ICS on my Motion, tried a JB rom, broken GPS forced me to uninstall, but I liked it just fine for the most part. My phone will NEVER see an update to JB so it is solely up to the devs... |
