Wasim Akram offered a short-term bowling role by the PCB ? Cricket News Update

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has offered legendary fast bowler, Wasim Akram, a short-term bowling coach role, to groom the raw talent in the country.

According to sources, the PCB was interested in hiring Akram as a full-time bowling coach but due to his hectic schedule covering assignments abroad, the former skipper, he has only agreed to help the board on short-term basis.

"I am willing to coach because I would like to work with youngsters and train them. I have always said that I am available to work with young bowlers in Pakistan, but due to my busy schedule I can't do this full time. But whenever I am in Pakistan, I am available to coach and groom the youngsters," said Akram regarding the matter.

Rooting for the young talent in Pakistan the left-hander added, ?There is no dearth of talent in Pakistan, it only has to be scouted and groomed properly."

Giving PCB?s side of the story regarding the new deal with Akram, an official said, ?PCB is always very keen to utilise his services and this is a positive gesture by him.?

However, the official added that nothing had been finalized yet and the schedule needs to be chalked out between the board and the Akram.

The fast bowler is currently in Australia, covering ICC Under-19 World Cup as a commentator, after which he will join the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in October during the Champions League scheduled to be played in South Africa.

Akram last rendered his services as a part-time bowling coach for the PCB back in 2007.

Last week, he however, expressed readiness to work with the young bowlers in Pakistan to help the PCB raise the standard of fast bowling in the country.

Carrying a long and glorious history of fast bowling, Pakistan has seen a dip in recent years, where the country has failed to produce a lethal pace attack.

After the suspension of Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir over spot-fixing, followed by the retirement of world?s fastest bowler Shoaib Akhtar, Pakistan is struggling to maintain their pace attack, causing the national team to rely on spin bowlers to carry the bowling attack.
