Motorway Phobias

Published by Sherry | February 12, 2012 | | 50

Millions of people are reported to avoid motorways in their vehicles when making journeys around the country, as they are afraid, a study has revealed this month.

The motorway is the fasted road in the UK, getting us from A to B in a simple and direct way. Although the speeds are higher, the roads are comparatively safer than A roads, as they usually offer less twists and turns, and you are not faced with oncoming traffic coming close to you.

But the AA route planner has revealed that over five million routes were requested last year that avoided motorways, which added more than six hundred million miles to our journeys.

A lot of drivers are scared of crashes at speed, which can be avoided on the motorway by leaving adequate room behind and in front of you, by merging safely on slip roads and by driving at the speed limit, as opposed to driving too slowly.

Young drivers and women are statistically the most nervous drivers on the motorways.

Only forty four percent of under twenty fours, and the same percentile of women felt confident enough to drive on the motorway, with nearly forty percent of new drivers feeling confident enough to tackle these roads.

One in ten drivers feel that they would benefit from a refresher driving course, or advance driver training so they can feel more confident when driving on faster roads and motorways.

If yu are planning on driving anywhere, make sure that you have adequate Car Insurance.
